Seniors

13119797_1603891429870657_7486179076107974734_oThe Seniors operate alongside the Company Section on a Friday evening but have a slightly different programme allowing the oldest Boys to take part in more grown-up activities than the other age groups.

The pinnacle of Seniors’ work is the highest award in the BB, the Queen’s Badge, usually awarded at the end of S5.

For Seniors, the badge work runs a little differently than in the rest of the Brigade, using the Challenge Plus scheme. This has three levels: bronze, silver & gold, however these are not awarded consecutively, rather each individual Boy sets a target to aim for each year allowing them to work around QB work, exam revision & any other commitments young adults may have. This allows for badge work to continue in an age group where many Boys are not able to commit as much as the younger Boys can.

P1000799More opportunities become available when reaching Senior age, with some of our Boys having taken part in a number of activities in the recent past including trips to Go Ape & Xtreme Karting, and residential stays in a number of European capital cities, including Edinburgh, Copenhagen, Rome & Madrid.

More leadership opportunities are also available, with the current 6 Seniors recently planning & leading an entire Company Section evening themselves.

In recent times our Seniors have competed in the annual Battalion pool tournament, and were silver medalists at the Battalion Cross Country championships, in addition to attending skills-based training with Boys from the Battalion and the rest of Lanarkshire.

If choosing to complement their President’s Badge with DofE Bronze or their Queen’s Badge with DofE Silver, Boys also get a chance to work with others from the local area when undertaking the expedition section.

Usually with a practice in June and a qualifying trip in August, Boys head to the Pentlands, Ochils and Trossachs and work as a team with other Boys from the Battalion and occasionally local Girls’ Brigade members too.

In addition to all the Company Section activities, the Seniors have a great three final years as Boys in the Company, with many progressing onto adult leadership.
